Nigeria and Libya are set for another soccer face-off, this time on sand and without boots, as both countries have been pooled in the dame group at the next Beach Football Africa Cup of Nations.
So soon after Nigerian hit Libya home and away in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, after an earlier victory in the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) in Morocco at the start of the year, footballlive.ng can report that both countries are heading for bragging rights again.
This comes after Nigeria’s Super Sand Eagles were drawn alongside Libya as well as defending champions Senegal and debutante Tanzania in the same group for this year’s Beach Soccer AFCON in Giza, Egypt.
While two-time champions Nigeria will rekindle their rivalry with Libya, it is a potentially explosive clash with Senegal that should get tongues wagging at the competition, which will hold from Sunday, December 9 to Friday, December 14.
This is sequel to memories that it was the Francophone nation that stopped the Sand Eagles from clinching a third title two years ago in Lagos, as Senegal beat Nigeria 8-4 in the final.
Tanzania qualified in place of South Africa, who withdrew, while Libya return after missing the last edition, as they got a walk over on Kenya in the qualifiers to advance to the main draw.
Host nation Egypt are drawn in Group A alongside Morocco, Madagascar and Cote d’Ivoire, with the top two nations qualifying to represent the continent at next year’s World Cup in Paraguay.
