Nigerian Players in Thursday’s UEFA Europa League

Super Eagles winger Alex Iwobi continued his impressive form for Arsenal under new boss Unai Emery with a 53rd minute assist for youngster Emile Smith-Rowe as the gunners beat Qarabag 3 – 0 in match day two in the Europa League.

With a man of the match performance, the former Arsenal academy player has now created four assists for the gunners in all competition. Iwobi was substituted for French striker Alexander Lacazette in the 71st minute.

Still in England former Nigerian international, Victor Moses was a 74th minute substitute for Brazilian Willian in Chelsea’s 1- 0 win over Vidi FC of Hungary. Moses has become a fringe player under new boss Maurizio Sarri.

In Switzerland former Mountain of Fire Football Club front man Stephen Odey failed to hit the net in his second consecutive Europa League match but was instrumental for FC Zurich as they defeated Ludogorets Razgrad by a lone goal courtesy of midfielder Victor Palson in the 84th minute. Odey made way for Assan Ceesay in the 82nd minute.

In France Super Eagles winger Samuel Kalu played the entire duration of the game but was unable to lift his club Bordeaux as they lost at home 2 – 1 to FC Kobenhavn. Bordeaux are currently bottom of Group C haven lost both games played so far in the Europa league.

In Russia, Nigerian teenager Samuel Chukwueze was on the starting line-up for Spanish side Villarreal who played out a 3 – 3 draw against Spatak Moscow. Chukwueze came off for former Arsenal midfielder Santi Carzola in the 70th minute.

Nigeria midfielder Uche Henry Agbo played for 76 minutes before coming off for Paul Jose M’Poku in Standard Leige’s 2 – 1 win over Akhisarspor of Turkey.
