There were five Nigerian goal scorers on Thursday night in the third qualifying round of the 2018-19 UEFA Europa League.
The goals resulted in three wins and a draw with Nigeria internationals, John Ogu, Anthony Nwakaeme and Sylvester Igbonu netting one each for their respective teams.
Paul Onachu registered a brace and Philip Azango continued his fine goal scoring form in the competition.
For the Hapoel Be’er Sheva duo it was a fight back in the home game against Apoel Nicosia.
Ogu’s goal sparked life into the contest for The Camels, halving a two-goal deficit, before Nwakaeme made his game time count with a 70th minute leveler.
Meanwhile in Russia, Sylvester Igbonu and UFA controlled the game against Luxemborg’s Niedercorn and were rewarded for their dominance. The Nigerian scored in the first half to hand UFA an 38th minute lead.
The Russian Premier League side doubled just after the hour mark but saw their lead halved in the 80th minute. The late resurgence was however too late and UFA registered a first-leg win.
