Nigeria’s U17 women’s team, the Flamingos, have qualified for the 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Colombia.
The team secured their spot by beating Liberia 2-0 in the second leg of their final qualifying match at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja on June 14, 2024.
Harmony Chidi scored both goals, one in the 4th minute and another in the 63rd minute.
This win followed their earlier 4-1 victory in Monrovia on June 9, 2024. With a total score of 6-1 over both matches, Nigeria successfully earned their place in the World Cup.
Coach Bankole Olowookere in their first leg victory said their main goal was to secure a spot in the World Cup and make Nigeria proud.
He said “Our target is to secure a ticket and represent the country in the Dominican Republic.”
Nigeria’s Flamingos are now preparing for the U17 Women’s World Cup, which will be held from October 10 to November 3, 2024.
