NNL Bows To Pressure Against Promoting Eight Teams

Date:

Officials of the lower division domestic championship, Nigeria National League (NNL) have backed down on their proposal to promote eight clubs to the top-flight, Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Rather than stick to their guns over the suggestion, which met with critical comments from far and wide, the NNL has now rolled out a tight schedule that will see four teams gain promotion this month.

The scheduled is contained in the NNL’s new look Super-8 competition, which is billed to start December 17 in Kano and Lagos, from which the top teams in each centre will be promoted.

Footballlive.ng gathered that the NNL Super 8 to hold from December 17th to 21st, after the second-tier league body concluded plans for the playoffs, in order to determine teams to gain promotion into the NPFL.

The Southern Conference games will hold in Lagos while the Northern Conference matches will hold in Kano, with all fixtures following a round robin format, which means each club will play three ties under a week.
