Super Eagles central defender Leon Balogun was expectedly benched for the full match duration as Brighton & Hove Albion pipped Newcastle United 1-0.
Balogun made the 18-man cut for the game at St James’ Park but wasn’t considered for action and warmed the bench throughout the game.
Before the half hour in an intensive game, Beram Kayal popped up with the solitary strike the turned out to be the match winner.
Brighton & Hove Albion Manager, Chris Hughton prefers the central defence pairing of Shane Duffy and Lewis Dunk, that explains why Balogun hasn’t featured prominently in the starting XI.
It will be recalled that Balogun was rock solid for the club in the well deserved victory over Manchester United earlier in the season.
The former Fortuna Düsseldorf star who joined Brighton & Hove Albion from Mainz 05 in the Summer Transfer Window was instrumental for the Super Eagles’ impressive wins over Libya in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
