Bendel Insurance of Benin head coach Baldwin Bazuaye has stated that aiming for a continental ticket after one game in the Nigeria Professional football league might be too much to ask for but the team will do their best to make the Edo people proud by staying up in the league.
Insurance opened their NPFL account with a 1 – 1 draw in Sagamu against Remo Stars with captain Charles Omokaro scoring for the Edo Arsenal which is their first goal in 11 years in the country’s top flight league.
Former Nigerian international Baldwin Bazuaye revealed to footballlive.ng that he is satisfied with the win; “It’s a great thing and I think we worked hard for it, we rested enough after the Super 8. The technical manager and I sat and looked at how we can give the players professional programs and that is what we have been working on and after one week, here is the result we got.”
We are satisfied with the point we got away from home, we could have gotten all three points if not for the mistake we made from the opponent’s flick that led to the goal but we are grateful for the draw. It is a great thing for us to start our season with a positive result.”
Edo state governor Godwin Obaseki and deputy governor Philip Shuaibu have tasked the team to end the season with a continental ticket but the coach has called for caution as far as expectations are concerned; “The league has just started and we are going to take it one game at a time. The governor wants us to get a continental ticket and we are working towards it. We have started in the right direction and we are hopeful we can deliver a continental ticket but it is going to be a difficult one but we will fight to get it”
Insurance will play their first home game of the season at the University of Benin sports complex against Kwara United who came from a goal down to beat Enyimba 3 – 2 their first win of the season in three games.
