NPFL: Happy for the win, disappointed I didn’t score. FC Ifeanyi Ubah Captain

Date:

FC Ifeanyi Ubah captain Alaekwe Chijioke has revealed to footballlive.ng that he is a bit disappointed not to have taken his chances in his team’s 1 – 0 home win against second-placed El Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri in a Nigeria professional football league matchday nine fixture in Nnewi.

The Anambra Warriors continued their upward surge with a win against their closest rivals thanks to a 34th-minute goal by Ugwuka Emmanuel and the captain has revealed his excitement over the win. “I feel so good. We really fought hard as a team and as individuals, we deserve this win because we worked for it

As we all know El Kamemi is second on the league table and they were on the same points with us so it was a must win for us so we can move ahead of them and we did it.”

Alaekwe has also stated that the opponents never took their foot off the gas as they continued to seek a way back into the game: “They gave their best and we also gave our best. We are the top two teams on the table right now. We did our best and showed that we deserved to be there.”

The forward saw his clearest chance to get a goal swept off the goal line by El Kanemi’s defender and insists that despite being disappointed about not having his name on the scorer’s sheets, he is genuinely elated for the team. “I feel disappointed that I couldn’t score but At the same time, I am happy that we won because that is what matters the most and we got it.”

With the win, FC Ifeanyi Ubah currently tops the group B of the NPFL 2018/2019 abridged league on 18 points after nine games while El Kanemi Warriors is second on 15 points and Abia Warriors third on 14 points.
