The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) board might face making a big decision after fan troubles disrupted Sunday’s matchday 35 encounter between Rangers International and Enyimba.
The top-of-the-table clash was highly anticipated, with both teams knowing a win would boost their title chances. However, the match descended into chaos deep into stoppage time.
The game exploded into controversy in the 98th minute when the referee awarded a penalty to Rangers after Enyimba’s Pascal Eze appeared to foul Godwin Obaje.
Enyimba’s players surrounded the referee in protest and eventually made the remarkable decision to abandon the match and storm off the pitch. Amidst pleas from officials, Enyimba refused to return, leaving the match in limbo.
The NPFL title race now hangs in the balance, with the outcome of this clash still undecided. The board must determine whether Rangers will be awarded the points or if Enyimba will face sanctions for their walk-off protest.
