Heartland striker Chinonso Okonkwo has rallied his teammates and urged them to move on from the disappointing 1-1 draw with Gombe United.
The Naze Millionaires failed to hold on to a slim lead and played out a stalemate with Gombe United on Thursday, their second draw so far in the 2018/19 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.
“We came up against a very good Gombe United side and tried to take the initiative, creating many chances, but at the same time allowed our opponents a few scoring opportunities,” said the player to Footballlive.ng.
“We should’ve avoided conceding at the time. We tried to go a little deeper at that time and take advantage of the extra space, while we could’ve scored a second goal, but didn’t manage it.
“Instead we conceded from the penalty spot. We have to accept that, learn from it and move on.
“We have had a strong start to the season, but also realise we have a long way to go. Don’t forget where we came from. Anyone who has had success in football knows it doesn’t come along overnight.”
