Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) 2023/45 top scorer, Chijioke Mbaoma has completed a move to Libyan club side, Al-Ittihad SC on a two-year contract.
The 21-year-old striker caught the attention of several clubs after scoring 17 goals for Enyimba, winning the NPFL Golden Boot and Player of the Season awards.
Before his move to Al-Ittihad, Mbaoma briefly played for NPFL side, Heartland FC.
Al-Ittihad is the biggest club in Libya, holding 19 league titles.
The club’s statement confirming the deal stated, “Nigeria has always been known as a goldmine for strikers… Chijioke Mbaoma has arrived in Tripoli.”
Mbaoma is seen as a key player for the club’s domestic and continental ambitions in the 2024-25 season under coach Osama Al-Hammadi.
Mbaoma’s move to Al-Ittihad was a competition with strong interest from clubs in both Libya and Tunisia.
However, Al-Ittihad reportedly submitted the better offer to secure sign the player.
Chijioke Mbaoma is expected to join his new teammates in Turkey for pre-season training to replicate and continue goal scoring form in North Africa.
