Christian Nwachukwu provided 2 assists on his league debut for Botev Plovdiv, as the Bulgarian side raced to a 3-1 win over Botev Vrasta in their season opener.
After a scoreless first half, Martin Sekulic opened the scoring at the Hristo Botev Stadium for the away side, with Nwachukwu the provider in the 54th minute. The 18-year-old linked up with Sekulic again just 3 minutes after, as Plovdiv doubled their lead.
Daniel Genov pulled one back for Vrasta, courtesy of a Dilyan Georgiev assist in the 60th minute, as the home side tried to fight back. But Yanis Karabelyov scored a third for Plovdiv in the 77th minute to claim all three points for the Dusan Kerkez’s side.
Botev Plovdiv’s opening day win puts them second on the log behind Levski Sofia, who have a superior goal difference. Plovdiv survived a first-round qualification double header against Maribor for a place in the UEFA Europa League, winning 4-3 on aggregate. They will now take on Greek side, Panathinaikos in the second-round of qualification, with the 25th of July.
