Chaves midfielder, Kelechi Nwakali has announced his desire to return into the fold of the Super Eagles ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
In an exclusive chat on Brila FM, Nwakali revealed that a member of the technical department of the Super Eagles came to Portugal to watch and and speak with him.
He also stated that by virtue of his performance so far this season, he hopes to be called up to the national.
“I think if I say I’m not expecting a call up then I’m going to be lying because I think every young player, every player wants to represent their country,” the former U17 World Cup winner said.
“I’ve been having decent games this season. Yeah. I once spoke to the assistant coach of the national team. I believe they came to see like three of our games or four.
“Then I spoke to him in one of the games because he had a chance to speak to me. And also we spoke at length and then he told me that they are watching. So I believe hopefully I will get an invitation from them hopefully.”
“But I think the only thing is just to continue what I’m doing and then, you know, to keep improving.”
Kelechi Nwakali was in Nigeria’s squad to the last edition of the Cup of Nations, Cameroon 2021.
