Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup-winning captain, Kelechi Nwakali has landed in Porto, Portugal for talks over a possible loan deal that will see him play for the former European champions in agreement from his parent club, Arsenal of England.
Two loan spells first with MVV Maastricht before a move to VVV Venlo, which ended with the 20 year old returning to Maastricht for the second half of last season has been his story since his move to Arsenal.
Already he has put himself for a call up to the senior national team of Nigeria after scoring a spectacular goal for the B team in a friendly game against Europa League winners Atletico Madrid in Uyo shortly before the commencement of the World Cup.
Kelechi Nwakali made 64 appearances across all competitions for VVV Venlo and MVV, scoring 8 goals and providing six assists while he was on loan in the Netherlands.
The attacking midfielder jetted out to Portugal on Friday, to begin pre-season preparations with Porto, who have agreed a deal to sign Nwakali on loan for the 2018-2019 season.
Porto wanted to include an option to buy clause but Arsenal stood their ground as the talented Nigerian could be part of their first team plans in future.
His older brother, Allwell Nwakali disclosed: ”Kelechi is on his way to Portugal now, he left Nigeria on Friday night. Everything is in order; he will play on loan for Porto for the 2018-2019 season.
”By the grace of God, this time, we expect him to get his work permit after the end of the season and a call-up to the Nigeria national team.
”I believe he will do well at Porto, they wanted to include an option to buy but Arsenal refused to accept the offer.”
