New loan arrival at FC Porto of Portugal, Kelechi Nwakali has declared that he is ready for the tough challenge he expects at the club, as he is determined to make his best in the team.
Nwakali, who captained Nigeria’s cadet squad to glory at Chile 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup, admitted that Porto are a top club, with a rich history of both domestic and continental laurels, but stressed that he is determined to make his mark with the squad.
Nwakali, who scored a stunning goal on his senior national team debut, in an exhibition game for the home-based Eagles against Atletico Madrid at Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, said he is already eyeing a spot in Porto’s main team, as he believes he has the right quality to play at the top level of any club in Europe.
While admitting he is very happy to have joined a top club that can help him improve his game and develop his career, the 20-year-old attacking midfielder said he is already eager to achieve a glorious debut season.
Nwakali, who previously played on loan at VV Van Venlo and MVV Maastricht of Holland, added that he is excited about the new challenge at Oporto, whilst also confirming that he will be registered for both the club’s A and B teams.
He said: “FC Porto is a very big club and I’m excited to be playing with an outfit that has a big European achievement.
“I know the challenge ahead and I’m fully ready and committed to making the best of my stay in Portugal.
“Hopefully, I will get a chance with the main team because I know I have what it takes to play at the very top.”
