Obasi Endures Bitter-Sweet Weekend In Sweden

Date:

Former Super Eagles winger, Chinedu ‘Ogbuke’ Obasi was forced to endure a bitter-sweet weekend with his club, Elfsborg of Sweden, as he scored one but could not save his side from defeat.

Obasi looked stunned and sad after proceedings, as footballlive.ng noted how hard he went all through the game and battled on a personal level, only to see his efforts end in naught.

Such it was that the former Germany-based attacker, who recently tried to seal a deal at Bolton Wanderers of England, struck one for Elfsborg in a 4-2 loss to Sirus in the Swedish Allsvenskan.

Obasi’s lone goals on the night came from the spot, as he was handed the penalty taking duties after Per Frick was felled in the box and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to double his team’s advantage.

On the opposing side, Moses Ogbu put heat on Elfsborg, as he scored in the 34th minute to make it 2-1, tapping in from close range after the substitute goalkeeper off Obasi’s team parried the ball into his path.

Ogbu then got an assist for Sirus’s third goal scored by Mohammed Saeid and then slotted home his second of the match and his team’s fourth following a goalmouth scramble on 72 minutes.

With five games to the end of the 2018 season, Elfsborg sit 11th on the table with 25 points, two ahead of 13th-placed Sirius.

However, Obasi’s 22nd minute effort took his total haul so far to three goals in his last seven matches in the Swedish Allsvenskan, with two assists also to show.
