New signing at HNK Gorica of Croatia, Godfrey Oboabona has issued a strong pledge to put in his very best with his latest club, as he seeks a revival of his career.
The former Super Eagles stopper admitted that his career has taken a tumble since he left Turkey, but Oboabona is now looking on the bright side for the achievement of greater things at his new base.
The former Sunshine Stars of Akure captain said he has been boosted by immense support he has got from Nigerian soccer fans over the years, especially those who celebrated his recent move to Croatia, and footballlive.ng learnt he wants to repay his well-wishers’ trust by turning out good form.
Oboabona, who last played for Rizespor of Turkey, said he was happy to help Gorica get a 1-0 away win over Ezekiel Henty’s club, NK Osijek on Saturday.
Oboabona, who joined Gorica this summer after leaving Saudi Arabia’s Al Ahli as a free agent, played 90 minutes, but got a yellow card in the 59th minute, to help his side move up to fifth position on the Croatian League table.
Speaking after the match, Oboabona thanked Nigerians for standing by him during trying periods of his life and believes they will keep praying for him, as he strives to put his career back on track.
Oboabona said: “I really want to express deep appreciation to Nigerians and my fans all over the world for their prayers, support and words of encouragements.
“Many of them do get in touch through the social media and offer useful suggestions, prayers and advice.
“To all of them, I say thank you and promise not to let them down as I open a new chapter in my career. I hope to do my best at my new club and help achieve desired objectives.”
