Odey vs Osimhen: Rohr’s Selection Headache as Onyekuru could miss Bafana game

Date:

Gernot Rohr will have the consider the option of inviting an NPFL based player or one of in-form duo Stephen Odey or Victor Osimhen in the place of injured Henry Onyekuru for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa next month.

Onyekuru, who is currently out injured playing for Turkish side Galatasaray SK is making progress in his recovery and is expected to return next month; a few days before the November 17th qualifier.

It is believed the Winger will be left out of the Eagles squad in order to hit full fitness and Rohr will seek to bring in a fresh pair of legs; albeit not necessarily.

Recently, Stephen Odey and Victor Osimhen have been in red hot goal scoring form and either could get a look in for a recall to the national team.

Odey has been a regular for FC Zurich for the most part this season, and in the last 10 appearances in all competitions, he has scored five goals; including the match winner against Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League.

On his part, Osimhen is reviving his nascent career on loan at Sporting Charleroi from VfL Wolfsburg and has been a constant threat to defenders.

The youngster has netted 6 goals in 8 appearances across all competitions for the modest Belgian side, where he scored none for Wolfsburg in 14 league appearances across two seasons.

Both have had stints in the national team invited at various times in the past by Rohr, and the German might also have to look inwards although recent quotes attributed to him about Nigerian club sides suggests he has no faith in the NPFL players.
