Defender Glory Ogbonna says winning the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) is a well deserved achievement for the Super Falcons.
The final against South Africa at the Accra Sports Stadium ended 0-0 after 120 minutes.
However, after Nigeria had beaten South Africa 4-3 in a tension soaked penalty shoot-out, Ogbonna said that winning an event with her country was a different feeling.
“We deserved to win the tournament. I cannot express my happiness,” the Ibom Angels defender told Footballlive.ng.
“When you win a title with your country, it is unbelievable.
“I have been dreaming of this moment. I have been waiting for this moment.
“I’m very delighted and I want to thank all who have inspired and motivated us.
“We were superb and we should congratulate our goalkeeper Tochukwu Oluehi.
“Today (Saturday), she is the one who brings us the trophy.”
