Ogu Seeks AFCON 2019 Qualification Boost With Victory

Date:

Hapoel Be’er Sheva of Israel midfielder, John Ugochukwu Ogu has affirmed that victory over Seychelles on Saturday would be the right boost for Nigeria’s target of reaching next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Having missed the past two editions of the competition, which they won for the third time in history back in 2013 in South Africa, Ogu (Suker) reckons that the only way to prevent a third setback is to nail their hosts on Saturday.

While acknowledging that the Eagles will miss their inspirational captain, John Mikel Obi, Ogu said the lads will rise up to the occasion to eke out victory in his absence.

The towering midfielder, who has been in impressive form with his club early in the new season, with three goals already to his name, said the Eagles will do their best to fill the void of Mikel’s absence to secure maximum points at stake.

Ogu declared: “Of course it’s always a huge blow without the service of our captain, but I strongly believe we have players who can stand in for him and deliver for the team.

“This game is a must-win match for us because we lost to South Africa at home in our first game, so we will do ourselves a whole lot of good if we can win this one and boost our chances of qualifying for the Nations Cup.”
