Ogu, Simon Seek Wins Before Joining Eagles’ Camp

Hapoel Be’er Sheva of Israel midfielder, John Ugochukwu Ogu (Suker) and Levante of Spain winger, Moses Simon will both be in the hunt for victories with their respective clubs this weekend, to send them forth in style to the national camp.

Footballlive.ng reports that Ogu and Simon are both in the list of 24 players invited by Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr for next weekend’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya, after which the team will play the reverse fixture in Sfax, Tunisia on Tuesday, October 16.

Ogu has been a regular in the Eagles of recent, even going on to captain the team ins a recent exhibition match against Liberia, while Simon is making a comeback after injury knocked him out of a spot in the squad to this year’s World Cup in Russia.

Though they have divergent fortunes with the Nigerian national team, both players will hope for the same level this weekend and club level, to get morale-boosting results heading into the national camp in Uyo.

In Israel, Ogu will seek his first victory of the season with Be’er Sheva when they host Macabbi Petach Tukva at Toto Turner Stadium on Saturday.

Ogu and the defending champions are win less after five league outings, scoring just twice in the process, but he is one of the two goal netters.

The tall midfielder, whose contract ends this season, vowed after a draw on Monday against Maccabi Haifa that his team will put smiles on their fans’ faces with victory this weekend.

However, Ogu and his pals must be at their best, as their visitors are yet to lose a match, while Be’er Sheva are yet to recover from the departure of Anthony Nwakaeme to Trabzonspor of Turkey.

In Spain, Simon will aim to get his first start for Levante when they travel to face Getafe in the Spanish La Liga, in which his side will seek to record their third win on Saturday.

The former SK Trencin of Slovakia and KAA Gent of Belgium crafty player, who recently returned to full fitness, has been off the bench in Levante’s last three games.

Simon was credited with Levante’s second goal in their 6-2 bashing by Sevilla, but would believe he had done enough to convince the coach to give him a starting shirt this time out.
