Austin Jay-Jay Okocha, former captain of the Nigerian national team, has expressed his confidence in the Super Eagles’ ability to defeat South Africa in the semi-final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and potentially win the trophy.
Speaking with Arise News ahead of Nigeria’s crucial clash with South Africa, Okocha emphasized that the semi-final match is open and could go either way.
“It is open but of course as a hardcore Nigerian fan I expect our team to grab the opportunity and make it to the final and give themselves the chance to win it,” Okocha said.
He emphasized the importance of taking each game one step at a time, focusing on earning the right to win each match. According to Okocha, the team’s immediate priority is to defeat South Africa, regardless of the circumstances.
“It’s one step at a time, we have South Africa to play next. We just have to earn the right to win a football match. It doesn’t matter how now, we just have to win.”
Okocha, who has been actively supporting the Super Eagles during the 2023 AFCON matches, has been providing motivation and inspiration to the players, encouraging them to achieve victory on the field.
