French striker Olivier Giroud, who plays for Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC, has reportedly fallen victim to a burglary, with thieves allegedly stealing jewellery worth approximately $500,000 from his home earlier this month, TMZ reported on Tuesday.
According to the report, law enforcement sources said Giroud’s wife discovered a shattered window at their residence on February 5 and reported the break-in.
Among the stolen items were more than 10 men’s watches and other valuables.
The Los Angeles Police Department has confirmed that an investigation is ongoing, but no arrests have been made so far.
Olivier Giroud, 38, joined LAFC last year after a successful career in Europe with Arsenal, Chelsea, and AC Milan.
The 2018 World Cup winner with France is his country’s all-time top scorer and helped LAFC secure the US Open Cup title in 2024.
The burglary follows a troubling pattern of break-ins targeting high-profile athletes in the United States. Recently, NFL quarterback Joe Burrow (Cincinnati Bengals), NBA guard Ty Jerome (Cleveland Cavaliers), and Atlanta Falcons cornerback Antonio Hamilton have all been victims of similar crimes, with some incidents occurring while they were playing in nationally televised games.
Authorities have yet to determine whether Giroud’s burglary is linked to the broader trend of targeted thefts against sports figures.
