Super Eagles goalkeeper Ojo Olorunleke will feature in the 2024/25 Champions League after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) officially approved the participation of Sudanese clubs on Monday.
Olorunleke recently joined Al-Merreikh, moving from Nigeria Premier Football League champions Enyimba after three years with the club and signing a two-year contract with Al-Merreikh
Al-Merreikh and Al-Hilal will compete in the Champions League, while Al-Wadi Nyala will participate in the Confederation Cup. This clearance came after the endorsement of the Club Competitions Licensing Committee and the approval of the Sudanese Super League, held in Tanzania.
The development is attributed to the efforts of the Sudanese Football Association and its Chairman, Dr. Moatasim Jaafar Sir Al-Khatm, a member of the CAF Executive Committee.
First Deputy Chairman of the Sudanese Football Association, Osama Atta Al-Mannan, confirmed that Sudanese clubs will not face any difficulties in participating in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup this season. He praised the efforts of Dr. Moatasim Jaafar in securing the clubs’ participation through the approval of the Sudanese Super League.
