Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) board member and chairperson of the body’s women committee, Alhaji Ayo Omidiran has charged the female national team, Super Falcons to return from Ghana with their ninth continental soccer showpiece title.
Omidiran, who is also a honourable member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, said as much during a vist to the team’s camp in Epe, Lagos, where she told the players to stay focused and prepare well.
The proprietress of former top-flight female club, Omidiran Babes of Osogbo, urged the Falcons to work hard and brace up fully for the challenge of defending the continental cup they last won in Cameroon.
The Falcons are drawn to play South Africa, Kenya and Zambia in Group B of the 11th Women Africa Cup of Nations, with Cape Coast as venue of their first round matches.
The Nigerian lasses will start their defence against eternal rivals and title contenders, Banyana Banyana of South Africa on Sunday, 18th November, ahead of which Omidiran said she is expecting victory.
She recounted that Nigeria emerged champions in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2010, 2014 and at the last edition in 2016, during which they defeated hosts, Cameroon 1-0 in the final.
