A goal each from Jide Apena, Alaji Rasaq and own goal from Rafiu Moshood, was more than enough for Osun United Football Club to claim a big win over Ikorodu United FC in a rescheduled Matchday 5 fixture of the 2018 Nigeria National League decided on Wednesday at the Oshogbo Township Stadium.
The Omoluabi Giants wrapped up the game with three goals under 30 minutes in the first half.
A fierce counter attacking move orchestrated by Victor Okeji in the 14th minute of the exciting match saw Apena scoring the homers first goal tapping into the net a well tailored cross from Alaji.
Alaji who was unarguably the best performer in the game, doubled the lead for the Omoluabi Giants two minutes after the opener with a screaming strike after connecting a lovely pass from Hakeem Olalere .
After conceding two goals in two minutes, the Oga Boys upped their game and they nearly get a goal in the 24th minute but Osun United’s goalkeeper, Ayo Ojo, did well to his left to deny Rowland Silas.
Osun United put the game beyond Ikorodu United in the 30th minute, when Monsuru deflected Michael Okolo’s well taken free kick into the net to give the homers a comfortable lead.
The visitors put themselves together and dominated the game in the second half with the introduction of Stephen Anyanwu and Gafar Olafimihan.
Anyanwu, Gafar and Samuel Stone went forward on several occasions with arrays of attacking display in search of goals but all their efforts were thwarted by the home team goalkeeper Ayo Ojo doing a yeoman’s job with great goalkeeping.
Ikorodu United defender, Moshood Kabiru, was sent off for a second bookable offense in the 76th minute.
Osun United are now off the drop zone on the log, having garnered seventeen (17) points from fifteen (15) matches and will welcome Rovers Football Club on Saturday October 13, at the Oshogbo Township Stadium in a rescheduled Week 11 contest.
