Trabzonspor of Turkey midfielder, Eddy Ogenyi Onazi has admitted he was relieved to return from injury and star for his club, in a 0-0 draw against Erzurumspor on Monday night in the Turkish Super Lig.
Although footballlive.ng learnt that Onazi could not continue the match into the second half, the former SS Lazio of Italy star said it was a relief that he got to the starting line up at all.
This is sequel to an Achilles’ heel complaint he picked up during ttaining with the Super Eagles’ for their double fixtures against Libya in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Although insinuations ran rife that Onazi actually stylishly dodged both matches in Uyo and Sfax because he did not want to be on the Eagles’ bench or in the stands, the battling midfielder showed signs on Monday that he is yet to make full recovery.
He was subsequently replaced in Trabzonspor’s goalless draw against Erzurumspor at half-time, after picking up a yellow card just before the first half ended.
However, Onazi, who welcomed his second daughter over the weekend, started his ninth consecutive league game, in which he earned a rating of 6.8, completed 83% passes, 100% dribbles and 100% tackles.
Onazi also came tops in five of ten duels, made three interceptions and delivered a piercing pass, as Trabzonspor moved up to 7th position with 14 points from nine games.
