Onazi Targets Redemption Time At Russia 2018

Date:

Trabzonspor of Turkey midfielder, Eddy Ogenyi Onazi has disclosed that he would be targeting a redemption of sort at this year’s World Cup, as he wants to correct all the errors he committed during his maiden outing in Brazil.

It was four years ago that the then SS Lazio of Italy star debuted at the Mundial and, as he is now seeking a spot in Nigeria’s squad to Russia 2018, Onazi says he wants the chance to put right everything he did wrong at Brazil 2014.

At Brazil 204, the Eagles reached the second round, but suffered a 2-0 defeat to France, with then outgoing captain, Joseph Yobo scoring an own goal after Paul Pogba got his side’s opener

This time out, Nigeria have been pitted against Argentina, Croatia and Iceland in Group D at the 2018 finals which will be hosted by Russia.

Nigeria were also in the same group with Argentina at the 2014 finals with the South American giants beating the Eagles 3-2 in a Group F match.

However, the Eagles got their revenge in an international friendly match last November as they beat Argentina 4-2 in Russia, and Onazi believes Nigeria now has a better squad.

Onazi enthused: “What cannot kill you makes you stronger. This is the mentality we want to use. The true Argentina is one of the best in the world and it’s not going to be easy.

“When you do something, you try to learn from what you’ve done to be better. So, we’ve learned from our mistakes in Brazil and now it’s time for us to correct them and do the best we can.”
