Trabzonspor of Turkey midfielder, Eddy Ogenyi Onazi has disclosed that he and his colleagues in the Super Eagles aim to use next month’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Seychelles as a revival point for the Nigerian national team.
Onazi said he has already put behind all personal and team disappointments from Russia 2018 World Cup, and wants to look forward only, as he seeks to return to relevance with the Eagles.
The former SS Lazio of Italy battler admitted during a television interview at the weekend that he does not have anything to say about the World Cup, especially as he did not play a single match for the Eagles and the squad eventually failed to go beyond the group stage.
On the other hand, Onazi acknowledged that all the players now need to concentrate on the AFCON 2019 qualifiers at hand, considering that Nigeria did not qualify for the past two editions of the continental soccer showpiece.
Onazi declared: “I don’t want to talk about the World Cup, because it is in the past. All I want to do now is to look forward, and plan for better things.
“I am looking to the Super Eagles next match, which is in the Cup of Nations qualifiers against Seychelles. All of us have to start thinking about that match and we must plan for it properly.
“We really need to concentrate well for this match. This match is very important for us, because it is the opportunity for us to get back to where we truly belong.
“We need to get the three points, if not At least draw. The most important thing is that we must not lose that match.”
