Galatasaray of Turkey striker, Henry Onyekuru has downplayed desperation on his part for goals in the UEFA Champions League, as footballlive.ng learnt he just wants to help his club do well in the money spinning continental clubs’ competition.
Heading into Tuesday’s UCL season opener at home with Super Eagles pal, Brian Idowu’s Lokomotiv Moscow of Russia, Onyekuru said he is simply excited to see his Turkish Super Lig club among Europe’s elite and hopes they can reach the second round.
Onyekuru, who is expected in Gala’s starting line-up, however, admitted that he is aiming at his first goal in the elite league when Lokomotiv visit Turk Telkom Stadium on Tuesday.
On the other hand, Idowu has struggled to tie down a shirt with the Russian champions since his move from Amker Perm, such that he may just end up with a cameo role.
While Idowu is not sure of a role in the game, Onyekuru hopes to feature and says he is already thinking of how to play with the Galatasaray team to achieve a collective result.
Onyekuru said: “The whole team are gearing up for the match already. We are working really hard for the victory and will surely make our fans happy because it’s always good to start on a positive note.
“Scoring in a competition of this magnitude will always be a joy for any player. I will just take my chances and help Galatasaray advance to the next round of the competition.”
