Galatasaray of Turkey striker, Henry Onyekuru says he is happy with his elevation to the Super Eagles’ main list of invitees for upcoming matches against South Africa and Uganda, footballlive.ng reports.
Onyekuru, who is on loan from Everton of England at his current base in Turkey, had initially been placed in the Eagles’ stand-by list, but was elevated on Wednesday following an injury copped by Chngchun Yatai of China striker, Odin Jude Ighalo.
In reaction to the development, Onyekuru admitted he felt bad when he was announced on the stand-by list, but admitted it was because he was at that time just returning from an injury of his own.
Onyekuru said he has now put his disappointment behind him and is ready to put in his best to justify his entry into the list of invitees to face South Africa next Saturday and Uganda three days later.
The match against Bafana Bafana will be a decisive second to last fixture in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers for both countries, and Onyekuru says he will give everything in training to be part of it.
“I am happy with another chance to play for Nigeria. Good to get promotion from standby to regular invitation,” Onyekuru posted.
