Onyekuru Relishes First Match With Galatasaray

Date:

Galatasaray of Turkey new arrival, Henry Onyekuru is relishing his first match with the club, saying he was happy to get back unto the pitch, as he lined out for a pre-season match played in Switzerland on Thursday.

Although Galatasaray lost the match 3-1 against PSV Eindhoven of Holland, Onyekuru said it was a relief for him being part of the fray, following the tempestuous last days he had at RSC Anderlecht of Belgium.

The 21-year-old winger joined the Toffees from KAA Eupen of Belgium in the summer of 2017, before joining Anderlecht on loan.

He played 28 games and scored ten goals for Anderlecht before his season was cut short by injury, which also ended his dream of featuring for the Super Eagles at the World Cup in Russia.

Onyekuru played his first game in the colours of his new team as a second half substitute, after which he expressed his delight, though goals from Steven Bergwijn, Donyell Malen and Cody Gakpo saw his side lose.

It, nonetheless, marked a new step forward for Onyekuru, who sealed a season-long loan move from English Premier League side, Everton, to the Turkish Super Lig outfit, where he would spend the 2018/2019 season at the current champions.

It was Onyekuru’s first game since the serious injury he suffered while on loan from The Toffees to Anderlecht in December 2017, hence his confession that he felt really great in getting back into action.

He stated: “What a great feeling to be back on the field after such a long time. Preseason is in full effect! Honored to wear the Galatassary kit for the 1st time! ????❤ #Thankful.”
