Galatasaray of Turkey striker, Henry Onyekuru is targeting a glorious run with his club in the UEFA Champions League, as he believes they have what it takes to reach the knock out stage and go further.
Footballlive.ng can report that an opening day 3-0 win against Lokomotiv Moscow of Russia put Onyekuru and his teammates in the best level of confidence heading into the next game against FC Porto.
Onyekuru was upbeat ahead of the midweek battle away to Porto, as the lad on loan from Everton of England reckons ‘Gala’ will consolidate on their bright start to the elite competition and improve with each match.
The former KAS Eupen and RSC Anderlecht of Belgium attacker-cum-winger stated further that Galatasaray fear no foes, and believes his side will get their best marks in the UCL, to equal their past UEFA Cup heroics.
Onyekuru said he had been inspired by his club’s victory of the past weekend to believe that Galatasaray can beat Porto in the Group D clash.
The Turkish Super Lig club pipped Erzurum 1-0 and, though Onyekuru says playing in Europe’s elite competition is a different ball game, he insists his side are up to the task coming their way on the continent.
Onyekuru, who added that he is looking forward to playing at Estadio do Dragao, retorted: “We’ve already proved at Galatasaray that we can beat them and we’ll be giving it everything, there’s no doubt about that.
“It will be a great game and we must go out to enjoy it because the Champions League is different to anything else, we need to get the three points.
“There’s no doubt it has been a dream of mine to play there. It’s one of those places where a footballer always wants to play and do well.
“The Estadio do Dragao has lots of history and is up there with the Santiago Bernabeu, Old Trafford, San Siro and the Camp Nou, but hopefully we can win.”
