Oparanozie’s Fitness Was Cause for Concern – Waldrum

Date:

Super Falcons Head Coach, Randy Waldrum, has shed light on the absence of striker, Desire Oparanozie, during the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Waldrum revealed that Oparanozie had been nursing an injury even before the tournament commenced, but is now recovering well and might feature in their round-of-16 clash against England.

The forward, who is yet to make an appearance in the competition, is “impatient” for game time, however, Waldrum left a hint which could excite fans of the former Guingamp striker.

“We didn’t have her in the WAFCON because she couldn’t get out China. But, now that we have her, she came into camp and picked up an injury.

“I think in the second or third day in camp. That’s why we haven’t seen her, she’s been set back.”

“She really only started training before the second match against Australia. l think she just trained the day before so, she wasn’t ready to help us against Australia and then because of the quick turn around between Australia and The Ireland match, We only had one really good day of training.”

“I know she’s impatient, she wants to be in, but this will give the opportunity to have three or four days more to have an opportunity to see her and make sure she’s really ready and fit.

“So l won’t be surprised if you see her in some shape in the match.”
