Former Akwa United gaffer, Fatai Osho has opened up on his resignation from the club.
Osho announced his decision to part ways with Akwa United after game-week 14 of the current league season, with a lot of questions left unanswered around his move at the time.
The Gaffer highlighted that the problem was primarily due to depth of his squad.
He reminisced on the super 8 from last season, where the team got to semi finals, saying that some areas were noted for and were due for improvements.
He acknowledged the club management’s efforts to better the situation, but a lot could not be done about the situation.
“Actually, we tried our best during that time. People will remember that we went for the super 8 in Lagos.
‘During that period, we noticed a few areas that needed improvement. When we got back to base, we met and discussed about these areas.
“Then some players also expressed their desires to leave, and you can’t stop a player who’s searching for greener pastures.”
“Some players left and the team got weaker, instead of stronger. The management tried to get players, but the time window for registration was too small.
“So, we signed anybody that was showing effort and i believed that we could train them. We were going to derive strength in team chemistry and not individual talents.
“That was how we entered the league. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be. We played well, but we couldn’t score and everyone could see it. The management tried their best, but that was the problem.”
