Super Falcons and Bay FC striker Asisat Oshoala started and scored the opening goal in a friendly match against her former club, Barcelona Femeni on Tuesday night at PayPal Park.
In Bay FC’s second-ever match against an international opponent, Oshoala put her team ahead in the 17th minute.
She intercepted a pass from Barcelona’s goalkeeper, Gemma Font, near the edge of the box and calmly slotted the ball into the bottom left corner.
However, Barcelona Femeni responded quickly, equalizing just four minutes later.
Ewa Pajor made a run down the right side and found Kika Nazareth, who scored with a well-placed shot from the edge of the box.
The first half ended 2-2, but Bay FC couldn’t match Barca’s firepower in the second half.
The 29-year-old Nigerian forward, who recently represented Nigeria at the Paris 2024 Olympics, returned to her club in San Jose, California, after the national team’s disappointing exit from the tournament.
The Super Falcons were eliminated in the group stage after suffering three defeats and managing just one goal.
Bay FC will return to NWSL action on Friday as they travel to Portland, Oregon, to face the Portland Thorns at Providence Park.
