Oshoala’s Effort Not Enough as Bay FC Suffer 5-1 Blowout

Date:

Super Falcons forward Asisat Oshoala found the back of the net again, but her efforts weren’t enough to prevent Bay FC from a crushing 5-1 defeat to Gotham FC in the NWSL on Saturday.

Oshoala’s equalizer came just nine minutes after Gotham FC had taken the lead through Jenna Nighswonger’s penalty.

The Nigerian star offered Bay FC a glimmer of hope with her first-half goal, but the team crumbled under Gotham’s relentless second-half pressure.

This marked Oshoala’s seventh goal of the season and her fourth in the last five games, continuing her impressive scoring streak. The reigning CAF Women’s Player of the Year has now scored in back-to-back matches for Bay FC.

However, U.S. star Rose Lavelle put Gotham back on top in the second half and then Esther González’s two quick strikes left Bay FC with no chance.

Cecelia Kizer popped in a late goal just for good measure, sealing Bay’s fate in a rough 5-1 loss.

With this defeat, Bay FC now sit in eighth place on the 14-team table, with 28 points from 23 games.
