SC Kriens of Switzerland goalkeeper, Sebastian Osigwe says he has made himself available for an invitation to the Super Eagles because he knows Nigeria needs more than one top shot-stopper based in Europe.
Footballlive.ng gathered that Osigwe is ready to put aside his chances of playing for Switzerland at senior level to star for the Eagles in the next two months, in spite of the presence of Francis Odinaka Uzoho, Daniel Akpeyi and Ikechukwu Ezenwa in the Nigerian national team.
Osigwe, though, is apparently conscious of Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr’s preference for Uzoho, probably because the lanky star features for Elche in Spain’s second division.
Just like the odds going in Uzoho’s favour, Osigwe believes the exposure he is equally enjoying in Switzerland makes him equally formidable.
Consequently, the Siwss-born keeper is angling for a call-up for Nigeria’s last African Cup of Nations qualifier in Martch and a spot in the squad to play against Egypt in an international friendly three days later.
Osigwe further reckoned that he has what it takes to be in the Eagles after his experience with the youth squad, Flying Eagles in preparation for the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey.
The 24-year-old Osigwe, who has over 100 first team appearances for his club, said he has resisted the temptation to play for Switzerland, because he prefers starring for his fatherland.
Osigwe added: “I believe a big football country like Nigeria must have at least two or three good goalkeepers in the national team.
“Nigeria deserves this and I believe it is achievable. We are blessed with so many goalkeeping talents within and outside the country.”
