Former Ankaragücü and Ankaraspor manager Reha Kapsal has backed Victor Osimhen over Mauro Icardi in the scoring department.
In an interview with Turkish media outlet A Spor, Kapsal praised Osimhen, emphasizing that the Nigerian’s versatility and self-reliance give him an edge over his Argentine counterpart.
Osimhen recently joined Turkish giants Galatasaray on a season-long loan from Napoli and now shares the squad with Icardi, who has been with Galatasaray since his transfer from Paris Saint-Germain, PSG in 2022.
Icardi, who is currently sidelined due to injury, was instrumental in Galatasaray’s league title win last season, scoring 25 goals and providing 8 assists in 34 games.
“The main difference between Osimhen and Icardi is that Icardi needs his teammates to score goals, Osimhen doesn’t need anyone. The Nigerian star finds a position and scores even if they don’t bring the ball to him.”
Osimhen made his Galatasaray debut over the weekend, registering an assist.
According to the Turkish media Osimhme became the first player of the 2024/25 season to record seven shots in a single match.
