Sporting Charleroi of Belgium attacker, Victor Osimhen has received fresh words of sympathy from his coach, Felice Mazzu, who hinted that the lad’s recent injury was due to a strong intent by opponents to stop him from scoring, footballive.ng reports.
While Mazzu says Osimhen will need to rest until next year, despite medics declaring him fit to return to action this weekend, the coach believes the lad needs more protection from referees during matches, considering his current blistering top form.
Mazzu urged Belgian league referees to give some level of protection to his top scorer, as he believes Osimhen is now a target for defenders due to his recent vein of rich form.
Osimhen is on a season’s loan spell at Charleroi from VfL Wolfsburg of Gemany and, after notching eight goals in 14 league games this season he was hacked down and had to be substituted last week against Gent.
Mazzu explained that Osimhen’s substitution, which came four minutes after his latest goal, was to avoid the striker aggravating a knock, as he confirmed his rating as one of the best forwards in Belgium this season.
Mazzu added: “I think he has received some very heavy tackles and this should make the referees give him some level of protection.”
