Super Falcons forward Asisat Oshoala was pleased with the team’s performance after a 1-0 loss to Spain in their second Group C match at the Stade de la Beaujoire on Sunday.
Balon D’or winner, Alexia Putellas scored the winning goal with a late freekick.
Oshoala acknowledged that the team missed several scoring opportunities, with Captain Rasheedat Ajibade and Chiwendu Ihezuo failing to capitalize on key chances.
This issue was also evident in the Super Falcons opening fixture against Brazil, where they suffered a similar 1-0 defeat.
“All I can say is I am proud of our performance. I think we played good,” Asisat Oshoala said after the match. “We played against the world champions and we had our chances. We had opportunities to score.”
She added, “I think the same thing happened to us in the first game. We were not clinical upfront. If we start scoring goals, we can compete with any team in the world.”
