Former Sporting Lagos Coach Shares Challenges of Team Management
Paul Offor, the former head coach of Sporting Lagos, has talked about the difficulties of managing players in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL).
Speaking in an interview with Brila FM, Offor, revealed the challenges he has faced with the different personalities and egos in the dressing room.
One of the hardest parts of coaching, according to the Ex coach, is dealing with player expectations, especially when picking the match squad.
“Out of 25 players, you have to make a decision for 20 players. On match day, you also have to make a decision from that 20,” Offor said. “The most difficult part is where you have to tell a player that he’s not going to be part of the match squad. That’s the tough part.”
Paul Offor also noted how quickly team dynamics can change in terms of cabals in the dressing room and how managing these internal groups is crucial to keeping the team united.
He concluded, “It’s important to communicate and make sure that everyone understands they will get their own opportunity.”
