Striker Paul Onuachu was not included the the squad as Lesley Ugochukwu made his first appearance for Southampton on Saturday, but it was a challenging debut as the Saints were comfortably defeated 3-0 by Manchester United.
Ugochukwu, on loan from Chelsea, played 64 minutes but couldn’t help prevent Southampton from recording their fourth consecutive Premier League loss.
Manchester United took the lead through Matthijs de Ligt in the 35th minute, with Marcus Rashford adding a second before halftime. Alejandro Garnacho completed the scoreline in stoppage time.
Nigerian midfielder Joe Aribo, who had impressed in previous games, was left on the bench by manager Russell Martin.
Paul Onuachu, who had been seeking a return to Trabzonspor, was also not included in the squad, leaving his future uncertain as Southampton’s struggles continue.
However, Southampton surprisingly included Paul Onuachu in their 25-man squad for the 2024/25 Premier League season. Onuachu will now compete for a place in the team.
