Nigerian forward, Peter Olayinka has successfully undergone surgery for an Achilles tendon injury and is set for an extended period on the sidelines.
Olayinka sustained the injury during Red Star Belgrade’s UEFA Champions League clash with AS Monaco last week, forcing him to be substituted early. Red Star suffered a 5-1 defeat in that matchday three encounter.
In an official statement, the Serbian club confirmed the success of the procedure and shared updates on the player’s condition:
“Peter Olayinka was successfully operated on in Finland by a famous doctor, after an Achilles tendon injury due to a blow he received during a match in Monaco.”
“Everything went well and we are waiting for the post-operative period to pass in order to estimate the return time of Zvezda’s football player. We wish him a speedy recovery and return to the field!”
Before the injury, Olayinka had been in fine form, scoring two goals and providing two assists in six league appearances for Red Star Belgrade this season.
