Peterside Unimpressed with Nwakali Transfer

Date:

Former Nigerian international, Idah Peterside has reacted to Kelechi Nwakali’s transfer. The Nigerian winger recently signed for League one side, Barnsley on a three-year deal.

The former goalkeeper referenced the player’s youth, and mentioned that he was highly rated. Peterside described the player as ‘lazy’, adding that the player needs mentoring.

“We’ve followed his story for years, everyone knows Nwakali. When God gifts you a gift, your work is what will enhance your gift. The boy is a lazy player, an undisciplined player, sorry to say this.  He doesn’t know what he wants from life, I don’t know who his friends are. Someone needs to sit him down, and mentor him.  You know how football is, before you know it, he has spent 3 years and he’s 30. Once you’re around 28, 29, 30, there’s a countdown”, said the former player.

The former goalkeeper explained that more was expected from the player, and sighted an example where the player fades away from the scene. He, however wrapped up by wishing the player the best at his new club.

“As a young boy who played well at U17, you’ll expect him to have hit his peak. Next thing you know, he’s playing for Rivers United and he has faded. So, some of these young players need someone to speak to them, someone they can answer to. They say the way you lay your bed is how you lie on it, so we wish him all the best”, Peterside added.
