FC Porto of Portugal summer signing, Kelechi nwakali has stated delight with his debut day form with the club’s B-squad, and believes it is a sign of better things to come for him.
Speaking after an impressive performance against Vitoria Guimaraes at the weekend, Nwakali said he was happy with his assist in his side’s victory and admitted that he hopes to get better with each passing game.
Nwakali and UAE 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup winner, Musa Yahaya were both named in the starting line-up by the Porto B manager Rui Barros.
However, it was Nwakali that bagged an assist for Porto B in the 5-3 win over Guimarães’ B team on Sunday at Estádio Dr. Jorge Sampaio, in their last friendly before the start of the new Segunda Liga season.
In the 36th minute, Rui Costa made it 2-1 to Porto B when he scored off an assist from Nwakali, before he doubled the advantage two minutes later.
Irala (2) and Madi were the other scorers for Porto B, while Huan Huan (2) and Edmond were on target for Vitória de Guimarães B.
Nwakali is now standing tall, after the impending Super Eagles invitee, who will spend the forthcoming season on loan in Portugal, hit the ground running.
The 20-year-old former Golden Eaglets captain, who joined Porto from Arsenal in July, scored on his debut for Porto last Wednesday, before capping a fantastic week with another stellar display against Guimaraes which saw him bag an assist in their 5-3 win.
Nwakali is now seeking a continuum with the squad when Porto again play Wednesday in a last friendly against Gil Vicente before Saturday’s opening Segunda Liga match at Estoril.
He said: “It’s always good when you come into a club and settle in well; I scored on my debut last week and I had another assist, so I will say I’m satisfied with my performance so far.
“I want to keep improving on and off the pitch to ensure I meet my goals this season and hopefully play for the main team when the season kicks off.”
