President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the Super Eagles after they qualified for next year’s AFCON in Cameroon.
The Eagles recorded 10 points from five matches after they were held to a 1-1 draw by home team South Africa in Johannesburg Saturday.
“The President joins millions of football-loving Nigerians in commending the team for their spirited and disciplined performance against a very formidable opponent which earned them qualification with the final match against Seychelles a mere formality,” read the statement signed by Presidential media aide Femi Adesina.
President said he is enthused by the team’s confidence, sense of patriotism and professionalism, and commends these attributes to other Nigerians.
He promised the Eagles support at the tournament proper.
The Eagles, who have won the AFCON thrice, have failed to qualify for the last two tournaments.
