Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) side, Sunshine Queens, has appointed Rafiu Oseni as their new head coach, according to reports.
Oseni takes over the reins from Oladimeji Abimbola, who will now transition to coaching the club’s U-17 team. Assisting Oseni will be Nike Adekunle and former club captain Odunayo Adejoro.
The appointment of the new head coach was confirmed on Wednesday by Ondo State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye stating the need for restructuring football in the state.
He stated, “I want to appeal to the good people of Ondo State to keep hope alive with us as we embark on repositioning our teams for better performance. This is the period we need your prayers and support.”
The appointments are effective immediately. Sunshine Queens faced relegation from the NWFL during the regular season. This prompted the need for strategic changes within the club.
Yusuf-Ogunleye urged the people of Ondo State to support the team during this period of transition as the players need their prayers and encouragement.
