Real Madrid hurt Osimhen, Napoli’s Pride in Thrilling UCL Clash

Date:

Victor Osimhen was kept quiet for the most part when Napoli hosted Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League match at the Diego Maradona Stadium, on Tuesday.

Osimhen returned to the starting XI after twice coming off the bench for Napoli in back to back Serie A games.

The 24 year-old couldn’t quite influence the game as Napoli were edged by Real Madrid in a five-goal thriller despite the hosts leading the game, albeit briefly.

Rudi Garcia’s men shut into the lead inside the opening 20 minutes through Leo Skiri Østigård.

However, the visitors responded eight minutes later, Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jr. linking up to level matters for the Spanish side.

Bellingham then scored a brilliant goal, beating several Napoli defenders before picking his spot from inside the box, leaving the opposition goalkeeper, Alex Meret rooted to the spot.

In the second half, Napoli created opportunities and managed on one occasion to link their CF, a pass to Victor Osimhen saw the Forward upended inside the box.

After consulting with VAR, center Referee Clément Turpin awarded the spot kick and Piotr Zielinski made no mistake, albeit he was aided by the upright.

With the game tied two-all, and tethering on the verge of ending in a draw, Los Blancos tightened the screw and from a corner kick, their Uruguayan midfielder Federico Valverde pulled a 25-yarded which made contact twice before settling in the net.

The ball came off the back of Meret from the cross bar and went in, counting as an own goal.

Whichever way, it was a goal that surely guaranteed Real Madrid maximum points on the road and left Rudi Garcia and his employees a bit disappointed.
