Remo Stars are set to return to continental football as they prepare to host AS FAR of Morocco in the preliminary round of the 2024/25 CAF Champions League this weekend.
After finishing second in the league last season, behind Rangers International, Remo Stars secured their spot in the prestigious competition.
This fixture will be a significant test for the Ikenne-based side, rekindling memories of past continental encounters.
Remo Stars previously faced Moroccan giants AS FAR during the 2021/22 CAF Confederation Cup under then-coach Gbenga Ogunbote.
Back then, Remo Stars travelled to Rabat as underdogs and managed a spirited 1-1 draw. However, their performance in the return leg in Ikenne was disappointing, as they suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat, ending their hopes of advancing further.
Can they redeem themselves?
This time around, Remo Stars are determined to make history by reaching the group stage of the CAF Champions League for the first time.
Facing AS FAR once again, the team is eager to learn from their previous experiences and deliver a stronger performance.
Head coach Daniel Ogunmodede is optimistic about his team’s chances, emphasizing the growth and progress made since their last encounter with AS FAR.
“We learn from our experiences, and I believe we will do better this time around. The squad has been training, and we will be ready,” Ogunmodede said.
The addition of several new players with valuable experience could be the game-changer for Remo Stars in this match.
The first leg will take place at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on August 18 at 6 PM, with the return leg scheduled for Stade Prince Moulay El Hassan on August 25.
